New 2011 Powder Core Catalog
Magnetics has published its new 2011 Powder Core catalog. This edition includes; new sizes, specifically the new large powder core toroids (outside diameter greater than 62 mm), new Designing with Magnetics Powder Cores and Core Loss Calculation sections, and a revised Core Selection Procedure. In addition, all material curves have been updated to reflect current performance with regards to Core Loss, DC Bias, AC Flux, and temperature.

Kool Mµ® Blocks for High Current Applications
Rapid expansion in the solar power conversion, wind power conversion, hybrid vehicle, UPS, and electric drive transportation markets has increased the demand for high current (100 - 300 amps) inductors. For many high-current applications the limiting factor is not necessarily the ability of the material to provide enough inductance at DC Bias, it is the ability to fit enough turns of the heavy wire or foil to provide the necessary inductance. To address that need, Magnetics tooled up a family of larger shapes (E cores and U cores) that were able to accommodate both larger wire sizes and greater amounts of wire. In some cases even these large cores were not robust enough to support the inductance required at currents greater than 100 amps. Magnetics Kool Mµ® block structures can be made large enough to achieve specified inductance in these types of applications.
Kool Mµ® blocks come in a variety of sizes and shapes for flexibility and customization of a design. New sizes can be tooled.
