ELECTRONICS ENGINEER


The Magnetics division of Spang & Company, located in RIDC Park-O’Hara Twp., has an opening for an Electronics Engineer in our Technology Center. Magnetics manufactures high quality components used in the electronic and telecommunications industries and has facilities in China, Hong Kong, Europe and the US.

The position responsibilities include:
• Electrical design, detailing, checking, and specification preparation.
• Support analog test equipment, transformer/inductor design, solid state electronics, power electronics, power test equipment, and power distribution equipment.

Experience required:
Experience in analog circuit design, trouble shooting, and test equipment
Experience in PCB layout, design, and component selection
Experience with high frequency analog circuits
Proficiency in Visual Basic 6.0 with experience in controlling external devices with GPIB and serial communication
Experience with embedded systems and programming
Experience in wiring and assembly
Proficiency with BOSCH RexRoth PLC programming extremely valuable

Education Required – BS degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering. Significant experience in the above areas would be considered in lieu of a BS degree.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MATERIALS/METALLURGY ENGINEER


The Magnetics Division of Spang & Company has an opening for a Product Development Materials/Metallurgy Engineer at our Pittsburgh, PA location (RIDC Park – O’Hara Twp.). Magnetics manufactures magnetic cores for use in the electronics and telecommunications industries. We have facilities in China, Hong Kong, and the US.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years to 10+ years of experience in a lab or development environment. Experience in powder metallurgy, powder making and or powder compaction very important. Experience with tool steels desirable. The Product Development Engineer will develop and improve metal and powder metal magnetic materials and manufacturing processes by conducting research, testing materials, and designing equipment.

Job Responsibilities:
• Develop new products and processes by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of modern material manufacturing techniques, material properties and final application of the end product.
• Characterize and evaluate the performance of materials by designing testing methods; testing physical, chemical and magnetic properties.
• Improve manufacturing processes and product performance by observing current methods, researching alternative methods, and implementing modifications.
• Prepare evaluations of competitors' products by testing and analyzing materials.
• Make recommendations by collecting , analyzing, and summarizing data, information, and trends.
• Expand the technical knowledge of the department by attending workshops; reviewing publications; establishing networks; participating in prof¬essional societies.
• Prepare and present technical information, recommendations and justifications for capital expenditures to corporate management team.

PhD or MS, depending on experience, in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science is required. Demonstrated success in launching new products and experience with statistical analysis of data, design of experiments, and written proposals is necessary.
